Tour Saint-Jacques

Originally constructed between 1509 and 1523, this 52-metre (171 ft) Gothic tower is all that remains of the Church of Saint-Jacques-de-la-Boucherie, which was a significant pilgrimage site on the route to Santiago de Compostela. Over the centuries, the tower has witnessed an array of historical events and transformations. In the 19th century, it was used as a meteorological station, contributing to the advancement of weather forecasting. The tower’s intricate sculptures and gargoyles are a marvel to behold, each telling its own story from the past.

Legend has it that the alchemist Nicolas Flamel, who was buried in the churchyard, conducted experiments within the tower’s walls, adding an air of mystery and intrigue. Today, the Tour Saint-Jacques offers a serene escape from the bustling city streets, with its surrounding gardens providing a peaceful haven. As you climb to the top, you are rewarded with breathtaking panoramic views of Paris, making every step worthwhile. This enchanting tower not only embodies the spirit of Parisian history but also invites visitors to embark on a journey through time.
